Beatglider Profile
Posted by: Andy on Thursday, 1st February, 2001Who?
Lee Hall, Paul Noble, Matt Randall and Kevin Reed, four young men from Essex. In the late 90s they recorded an album called Forty Days Of Summer, which very few people heard. Last year they signed to Dublin-based label Lakota and just spent five weeks in LA recording their second album, Dreaming Of Roads, with which they are hoping to make a stronger mark.
What do they sound like?
Well, laid back and summery but with an added depth which that description doesn’t do justice. They’re official biography says they’re “balanced somewhere between Southend and San Diego, east coast England meets west coast USA.” They’ve been compared to Pavement, My Bloody Valentine and Grandaddy.
So they’re an English indie band who sing with American accents?
No. They’re an English indie band who sing with English accents but make music that sounds like it got a little more sun that it would have in the normal English climate.
Any other points of interest?
Well, Ken Thomas (Sigur Ros) produced their last set of demos and Tim Rothrock (Beck, Badly Drawn Boy) produced the album. Your average band on a small indie label doesn’t get to work with these people.
IF recommends:
The new single, We Gotta Coast (Buy it at Amazon) and their four track demo, if you can find it (you probably can’t).
