Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Take Them On, On Your Own

Posted by: Bob on Saturday, 23rd August, 2003

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club return with their sequel to the 2001 initially eponymous debut that helped launch them thanks, in part, to celebrity endorsement and an excellent live set. Take Them On, On Your Own is a clear continuation of what has been described as fiery Goth blues. The energy thunders out on songs like Six Barrel Shotgun, Rise And Fall and Going Under fuelled by blues licks, rock-hard beats and thunderous bass. Meanwhile, echoes of The Cure give ghostly edges to Shade Of Blue and Suddenly which almost seamlessly join punk missives like US Government. BRMC have succeeded in keeping both their rainy anger and energising momentum in Take Them On…

The first single to be taken from the album, Stop, contains all their trademarks - their dirty bass lifted by the interplay of the guitars and drums while the chorus alternately reeks of despair and determination.
