Broken Social Scene - You Forgot It In People

When I heard the Broken Social Scene’s latest single, Cause = Time, I decided I didn’t like it quite quickly. I also decided, however, that this was probably not a band who wrote songs that worked outside the confines of an album. Now that I am in possession of the album, I can tell you that I was right (and I also love that song now).

You Forgot It In People benefits from being made by a band of 11 men and women who seem to take on different roles on each track, often this means bowing out altogether as rarely do all of them appear at once. This results in a beautifully diverse album, often reminiscent of dEUS, that contains tracks like the beautifully laidback and jazzy (without actually being jazzy) I’m Still Your Fag, the lilting and very strange Anthems For A Seventeen Year Old Girl and the highly targeted Late Night Bedroom Rock For The Missionaries.
