The ongoing saga of Pete Doherty continues, after his announcement in an interview with the Sun last week that he was to quit the Libertines and head to France to rid himself of addiction to heroin and crack it has now been announced that he is in rehab in Paris.

A spokesman for the Libertines told the NME that Doherty’s mother booked him into the French clinic in the hope that they will succeed where the Priory in London failed. In the interview the guitarist claimed that rehab wasn’t the answer: “I was barely aware of what was going on in [rehab] … I want to clean up but it’s something I have to do on my own terms.”

No comment on how this affects the band’s upcoming gigs, including this weekend’s Unity Festival. Their official website is currently offline.
