Concern For Doherty As Libertines Announce No Split

Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 8th June, 2004

Concerns are growing over the wellbeing of Libertines frontman Pete Doherty as it has been announced that he has left rehab for the second time in a month. This follows a statement last Friday from the band’s manager Alan McGee that they are not splitting up, despite Doherty’s claims to the contrary in a recent interview with The Sun newspaper.

Doherty checked out of a rehab clinic in Paris yesterday. A spokesman for The Libertines said, his whereabouts are currently unknown although every effort is being made to find him. We are all very concerned for his well being.”

McGee said on Friday, “The band is not splitting up but I agree these are not happy times. Peter is in a hospital and is getting treatment. His mum is constantly with him at present and she has been brilliant. We are all really concerned about Peter as anybody would be about somebody they cared about. He is truly in really good medical hands so please stop the rumours. At the moment it’s day to day as we are trying to get Peter well.”

Last night the band sans Doherty launched their new club night Dirty Pretty Things at Infinity in London, with DJ sets from Libertines joint-frontman Carl Barat and former Clash guitarist Mick Jones, who produced the band’s new album.
