New York Dolls bassist Arthur Kane has died in Los Angeles from Leukaemia aged 55. His death comes less than a month after the legendary band performed a reunion show at Morrissey’s Meltdown Festival in London.

Kane was admitted to an LA hospital on Tuesday (13th) with suspected pneumonia, though the recorded cause of death is advanced leukaemia. His family have already confirmed that there will be a public memorial service for Kane, a committed Mormon, behind the Mormon Temple on the city’s Santa Monica Boulevard on Saturday.

The New York Dolls reformed earlier this year to play shows at the request of fan (and former fan club president) Morrissey. They are also scheduled to release a new album on Morrissey’s Attack label later this year and recently confirmed appearances supporting Morrissey in the US, headlining shows in Japan, at this year’s Carling Weekend festivals in Reading and Leeds and at the International Garage Underground festival in New York. As yet no official statement has been made about any of these commitments though it is reported that New York Dolls frontman David Johansen is in Paris preparing a statement about the band’s future.
