The Line-up The core of The Special Goodness is vocalist and guitarist Pat Wilson (also of Weezer) and after several incarnations of the band he was joined by Atom Willard (ex-Rocket From The Crypt) on drums in 2000 and, despite a valiant search for a full time bassist, this is how the line up stays.

The History Pat Wilson has been attempting to get this band up and running seemingly since birth (if the biography is to be believed). He has certainly had a few stabs at it and at some point managed to record an album known amongst hardcore fans as “The Bunny Record”. In 1999 a new incarnation of the band toured the USA, only for things to go quiet again shortly afterwards.

In 2000, Wilson ran into Atom Willard, who had just left Rocket From The Crypt and the two began jamming together and even played a show. It wasn’t until after Wilson had recorded Weezer’s Green Album and his own solo effort, Pinecone, that the pair really began to work on being The Special Goodness. They recorded a demo and hired Sugar Ray bassist Murphy Karges to play live, but he was forced to leave the band in summer 2002 because he couldn’t commit the time they needed.

Undeterred Wilson and Willard went into the studio and recorded Land, Air, Sea as a duo and released it on their own N.O.S. Recordings in 2003. On January 19th 2004 that album was given a worldwide re-release on Epitaph.

The Sound Maybe unsurprisingly The Special Goodness sound a bit like Weezer in sound but without Rivers Cuomo. That’s not a bad thing though, in case you were wondering.
