Ambulance Ltd - Ambulance Ltd
Posted by: Andy on Thursday, 17th March, 2005Having signed to TVT in 2001, this is the long-awaited and much anticipated debut album from Ambulance Ltd, a mixture of carefully planned and constructed indie and carefree sun drenched pop.
After the opening instrumental Yoga Means Union, the first complete sign of the quality of this band’s songwriting talent is Primitive (The Way I Treat You) - it’s the barely audible percussive piano playing one chord throughout the song that really makes it. Further glowing displays of talent and small but all-important touches come on the single, Stay Where You Are, Sugar Pill, with its simple but effective percussion, and a stunning cover of The Velvet Underground’s The Ocean, which apparently moved Lou Reed to tears when he heard it.
This is one of those albums that sparks the imagination into life, wherever you are when you hear it it’ll be summer in your head. For example, right now I’m in a train carriage that stinks of piss but in my head I’m lying in a field, half asleep with the sun on my face. Ah, you gotta love the power of music.
