The band best known for providing the theme tune to The Sopranos have been presenting their very different take on country music since 1997. Now readying their 4th album, Outlaw, this single finds itself the first to be released from it.

Musically it sounds like it could have been written by Johnny Cash and lyrically, well, it was. A large proportion of the words in Hello… I’m Johnny Cash are taken directly from the titles of songs by the man in black.

What this says about the new album I don’t know but with guest appearances from BJ Cole, MC Tunes, Gary Lucas from the Magic Band and Bruce Richard Reynolds it’s likely to be the kind of varied musical pot you’d expect from Alabama 3. For now just enjoy the throbbing upright bass on this track and a tribute to a great musician.
