Soulwax - Nite Versions

Posted by: Andy on Monday, 26th September, 2005

Inspired by the idea of extending and expanding songs to work on the dancefloor and for the 12” format, as was the norm back in the 80s, the Dewaele brothers of Soulwax and 2manydjs set about using their considerable skills as remixers to rework their Any Minute Now album.

As well as this they have slotted in a few new tracks, including a cover of Daft Punk’s Teachers, and then put it all together to make one of the finest mix albums that has ever graced my stereo.

It’s difficult to pick highlights because this album is just one big highlight but if last year’s massive club hit E Talking and NY Excuse reworkings NY Lipps and Another Excuse (the latter a collaboration with DFA) don’t have you up out of your seat then you shouldn’t have sat down in the first place.

Nite Versions takes different slants on dance music from house to electro to techno, meaning that, although this is the work of one artist, it’s still more varied that most compilations.

You need this.
