Lindsey Lohan and Jared Leto are to star in a new film about the man who shot John Lennon, Mark Chapman.

The film, entitled Chapter 27, will follow Chapman (played by Leto) on the weekend that he shot Lennon. Lohan will play a fictional fan of the former Beatle who befriends the killer prior to the shooting in New York in 1980.

Written by Jarret Schaefer (who will also make his directorial debut on this film) and will, according to producers, be a psychological study of Chapman - Lennon himself will only appear briefly. The title, Chapter 27, refers to the 26 chapter in JD Salinger’s book The Catcher In The Rye, which Chapman cited as his motivation for the murder.

Lindsay Lohan has also just announced that she is to appear in a new Emilio Estevez production, Bobby, about the assassination of Robert Kennedy.
