Wu-Tang Clan founder member Ol’ Dirty Bastard (real name Russell Jones) has died aged 35 from a suspected heart attack. The rapper (who would have turned 36 this week) complained of chest pains shortly before collapsing in a Manhattan recording studio where he was working on a new album.

ODB recently completed a jail sentence for drug possession. This was not the star’s only run in with the law, over the years he has been involved in several shootings and charged with shoplifting, drug offences and threatening behaviour, amongst others.

No official cause of death has yet been announced. A post mortem is being conducted but doctors say it may take up to a week to come to a conclusion.

Announcing his death, his mother Cherry jones said, “To the public he was known as Ol’ Dirty Bastard, but to me he was known as Rusty. The kindest most generous soul on earth.” He leaves 13 children.
