Boy Kill Boy - Civilian

Boy Kill Boy are four lads from East London on the verge, some say, of being very big indeed. Vertigo Records certainly thought so, picking them up off the back of a couple of single releases via Fierce Panda last year, which, yes, means things have happened very quickly.

The album kicks off with Back Again, a stormer of a song that shows off Boy Kill Boy at their absolute best, playing pop music fast and loud. This skill is displayed throughout the album, particularly on the other stand out track Civil Sin. Unfortunately, other songs don’t work so well; recent single Suzie mashes together a Hard-Fi verse with a Libertines chorus and fails spectacularly to be any good at all and the 10cc-influenced Shoot Me Down doesn’t like any fires near me either.

Civilian is a very good, if not great, debut and has a lot more balls than most of its competition. It certainly matches up to any of the recent indie hits out there and Boy Kill Boy sound like they might have a bit more to give too, so stick around for album number two.
