All Wembley Stadium Gigs Cancelled

All those of you looking forward to seeing Bon Jovi, Take That, The Rolling Stones and/or Robbie Williams at the newly built Wembley Stadium are to be sorely disappointed as all gigs are now off, due to the over running (can we say disastrous?) built of the new venue.

The Football Association had already announced that the FA Cup final would be moved to an alternative venue when it takes place in May but they have now cancelled all gigs currently booked too (due to start with Bon Jovi in June).

In their statement the FA said they do not expect the venue to be open before 2007, with no firm date actually set, though Multiplex, the company building the stadium, say they expect to be finished by September this year. This is yet another wedge driven between this already strained relationship and those in the know (and probably those who aren’t too) are predicting a bit of a legal tussle sometime soon.

It’s not all doom and gloom though (and this really depends on how you look at it), Bon Jovi and Take That have announced that they are moving their shows to Milton Keynes.

In a statement Bon Jovi said, “Having closed the original Wembley Stadium, it would have been a fitting honour to open the new one. However, the most important element was always the live concerts themselves. So while the location may have changed, the celebration will remain the same. Thank you to our fans - for your loyalty and your patience. We’ll see you for two great nights of rock ‘n’ roll at Milton Keynes.”

Gary Barlow, also speaking about the move, told reporters himself, “We’re more than happy to hold the shows at Milton Keynes Bowl, it’s going to look great. We saw the stage set this week, it’s unbelievable. I think it’s going to better any of our other tours.”
