As you can probably guess from the titles, Akira The Don’s new double-A side single features songs whose contend is far, far apart.

Oh! What A Glorious Thing is a happy track, high on life and it doesn’t care who knows it. There are some nice lyrics in it but it’s not Akira’s best work and the fact that it appears on the soundtrack to Uma Thurman’s new film My Super Ex-Girlfriend doesn’t help the feeling I have that someone’s been watering down the man’s sound.

With by Elastica as it’s basis, Boom (Smash Stuff) works hard to claw back lost ground with all its talk of criminal activity (though the previous track does mention riding a stolen bicycle) with guest vocals from Why Lout? And very much does so. This is classic Akira The Don and bodes much better for the forthcoming debut album When We Were Young.
