Antifamily - Antifamily

Posted by: Daisy on Monday, 6th November, 2006

It’s a bit odd this one. I mean that in the sense that they really are a bit odd. Antifamily are another of those music collectives, and they can feature up to 15 musicians, but there are only 6 core members.

They make interesting electro pop songs. They consist of a lot of plinky clickly electro with drums and guitars all thrown together. I quite like opening track Law Of The Plainsmen, but then they lose me little. I think perhaps I am not appreciating something here. Maybe they’re a tad avant garde for me. See, I think they’re good, but I’m not sure I like them.

Prima Luce is pretty good. I like that one. The more I hear the more I just feel a little confused. I reckon if I listened to them all the time I’d love them. And they do have a song called Nation of Bastards which is a quite amusing. It’s a kind of dub-garage-electro melange. And Power Gets Less is a cool kind of improvised ranty number that does sound a lot like it done once and once only to create a random but good collection of noise.

In fact, the whole of the second half of the album is much more intriguing. It’d be what you’d expect from a play written my some loon who just came up with crazy music and dancing to portray their life. That probably sounds dire, but in my head it’s fucking hilarious!

I’m going to say that this is great, even if I’m not so sure. I definitely don’t *dislike* them.
