Nat Baldwin - Lights Out

Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 12th December, 2006

Over the years it’s become an unwritten rule that if you want to write songs on your own you need a guitar or a piano, but given the sheer number of instruments out there, this seems a little restrictive. There are exceptions to the rule, of course, and Nat Baldwin in one such exception.

On his debt album, Nat gives us eight haunting pop songs featuring only double bass and voice, each of them so rich and full sounding that it didn’t occur to me that there was only one instrument involved until I read the liner notes.

If you’re thinking you want to hear some of this, you probably already have. Pay close attention to the current Orange advert next time you see it.
