Yes Boss - Look Busy
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 30th January, 2007Grime duo Yes Boss made a grand entrance last March with Get Dropped Quick (appearing here as its alternative version, Indie Kids), a brutal tirade against unoriginal indie bands. This instantly found them a swath of fans amongst the grime, hip hop and indie scenes, with more singles and some support slots with all the right people picking up yet more and making this album officially “eagerly awaited”.
Now it’s finally upon us, does it deliver? Well, yes. Gavron’s hard, minimalist beats draw on grime, hip hop, garage, house and electro to provide a surprisingly hooky accompaniment to Noah Brown’s lyrics, which across the album are sharp, funny and angry.
On its own, that first single seems gimmicky, even novelty, but when seen as a whole, it’s apparent that it couldn’t be further from the truth. Look Busy is a great, fresh-sounding album with its own takes on classic hip hop themes and a few new ones, too.
