The first time I heard Ruby was when some DJ or other played a live version on the radio. That recording caused me to shout “Fuck! This is awful!” Not, I would assume, the reaction intended. I’m pleased to report, however, that the studio version is a lot better. It features The Kaiser Chiefs’ cunning ability to combine pop melodies with well placed riffs.

As hinted in recent interviews, the band have shaken off much of the novelty feel of their first album, though it would seem they have retained the stupidly catchy choruses. Best of all, though, no one says “wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo” at any point.
