The Almighty - Anth’f***ing’ology: The Gospel According To The Almighty

Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 13th February, 2007

Chronicling a career that has been going (on and off) since 1988, Anth’f***ing’ology, collects all of The Almighty’s twenty singles. Released as the band reform for (unless I’ve miscounted) the third time, it’s going to bring back a lot of memories for people of a certain age (myself included). Some of those people are going to wish that those memories were left alone (myself included).

Like a large proportion of 90’s British rock, The Almighty haven’t aged well. The early songs in particular seem like knocked off version of Alice Cooper, Guns N’ Roses and Motley Crue. By the time we get to Over The Edge, they have started to shape into a more Britrock sound, setting them alongside Therapy?, The Wildhearts and Terrorvision, but they still seem incredibly old-fashioned.

I don’t want to be completely down on this though, if you’re a hardcore fan then this is a great package. It was great to hear Jonestown Mind after what has been a very long time, too.
