The Only Ones Back For ATP

Posted by: Andy on Thursday, 22nd February, 2007

There have been several unlikely reunions over the last few weeks (The Police, two thirds of The Jam) but the most unlikely so far is The Only Ones, who have confirmed that they will perform at All Tomorrow’s Parties in April, curated by Dirty Three.

The show will be the band’s first performance in twenty two years and is unlikely because band founder Peter Perrett has previously said that it would happen “over my dead body”, while guitarist John Perry backed him up, offering that England would win the Ashes 5-0 before The Only Ones played together again.

More recently, however, the success of their 1977 single Another Girl, Another Planet in a Vodafone TV ad campaign has stepped up public demand for the band to return to the stage. It’s now speculated that they will also appear at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.

Dirty Three’s All Tomorrow’s Parties weekend is due to take place at Butlins in Minehead from the 27th to the 30th of April. Other acts so far confirmed include Nick Cave, Magnolia Electric Company, Spritualized, Joanna Newsom, Yann Tiersen and Cat Power.
