XisLoaded - Momentum Fails / I Am The Door - Our Own Radio

Oooh, It’s actually been a while since I wrote anything, please bear with me.
I didn’t make a good start with this as it took me about 5 minutes to make the connection in my brain that this is a joint release!

Anyway, on we go. XisLoaded’s Momentum Fails is a fairly decent if somewhat emo-esque track which mixes a bit of grunge and punk. They sound pretty tight and the roaring guitars make a combination of nice and scratchy noises. Vocals are slightly Hundred Reasons before they went a little dubious, and over all I have to admit that the more I hear it the more this song grows on me. It’s energetic but melancholic in that traditionally emo way.

I Am The Door’s Our Own Radio confused me a little as when it started I thought it was the same band again and someone had made a mistake. I’m not so enamoured with this lot. The emo singing is too much for my poor little ears. Musically they sound like a not very good ¡Forward, Russia! to begin with, but then they progress into a typically emo fast paced guitar riff which seems a little generic, although the percussion are quick and catchy. It’s a bit repetitive and I don’t think it’s as strong as XisLoaded, although they are equally tight, but perhaps a touch too polished. It seems like a song for the sake of it. That possibly makes no sense. But you know when it seems like a band has had to write a song in about 10 minutes to beef up their album? Yeah, Our Own Radio feels a little like that.

An emo release for all the emo kids I’m sure.
