Good Shoes - Never Meant To Hurt You
Posted by: Daisy on Monday, 5th March, 2007I used to quite like Good Shoes but I have to say this song really is quite boring. Previously their songs have been bouncy and exciting but Never Meant To Hurt You is a bit misdemeanour.
A band whose singer has such a distinctive sound ought to really play on this but instead, this song is just a bit of generic 70’s influenced jangly indie post-pop, whatever that means. You probably understand me.
It’s nicely produced though, and it sounds quite sharp, but there’s just nothing to get your teeth into. Where’s the catchy chorus and immediate infectious hooks? I’m increasingly aware that these are the key elements necessary to write a great song. The less the chorus sounds like the rest of the song, the better!
I’ve just been asked to help with the washing up and to be honest I would rather do that than listen to this song. Never Meant To Hurt You lacks anything distinguishable and I have to say that it’s the wrong thing for this band to be doing.
