Luxembourg Recruit New Bassist
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 13th March, 2007Pop-noirists Luxembourg, whose debut album Front was released last October, have recruited ex-Boyfriend, New Royal Family mastermind and Suede biographer David Barnett as their new bassist, who replaces Jon Bacon.
Luxembourg and The Boyfriends played several co-headline shows together last year, notably the Dogbox Records New Pop Revolution night when Morrissey turned up and promptly kidnapped The Boyfriends as main support on his European tour.
Through a strange sequence of events, the Luxembourg vacancy arose just as The Boyfriends were imploding. “I’ve been a fan of the Lux for yonks,” says David,
“so when the Boyfs came to its natural end I jumped at the chance to fill Jon’s shoes. However, he has bigger feet than me so I’ll probably give them back.”
According to Luxembourg’s frontman, also called David, confusingly enough, “David is a living legend and undoubtedly one of the most influential figures in modern music, so we couldn’t resist inviting him to join us. However, he told us Iman said she needed help
dusting the Toblerones and cuckoo clocks in their Swiss mansion, so we had to make do with David Barnett instead.”
The new, improved Luxembourg tread the boards for the first time on Saturday 14th April at the Feeling Gloomy club night at the Islington Bar Academy.
