Hotel Alexis - Goliath, I’m On Your Side
Posted by: Andy on Monday, 26th March, 2007The follow-up to The Shining Example Is Lying On The Floor, which was released in 2005, Goliath, I’m On Your Side takes the band’s dreamy Americana sound and plays with it, whilst still documenting founder Sydney Lidner’s personal view of the States.
There is no denying this record’s beauty and warmth, and the fact that it’s incredibly enjoyable to listen to. The problem is that none of it seems to stick. I can’t remember any of the songs individually, just an overall feel and sound. There’s also a stange choice of track order; the 19 minute drove of Hummingbird/Indian Dog breaks up the album in a way that doesn’t suit it, making the subsequent country songs seem out of place though it does accentuating the more sparse experimental sound of Oh, The Loneliness.
Goliath, I’m On Your Side is made up of some great songs but, as an album it fails to satisfy.
