Brendon Massei (AKA Viking Moses) is not your ordinary musician. For one thing, he’s been on tour since 1996 and shows no sign of stopping. Here, with the help of Virgin Passages and Steve Gullick of Tenebrous he has applied his distinct, scratchy style to four songs by Neutral Milk Hotel.

According to the liner notes, this project represents the time he (and all of us) have spent in private quietly plunking away at other people’s songs. This he has managed to do very well; these recordings all feel very intimate and sound like some guys in a bedroom or a living room playing for their own enjoyment. It feels like you’ve been invited into something special.
