Slint Announce Spiderland Tour
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 27th March, 2007After being coaxed into a reunion in 2005, Slint have announced that they will head out on the road again this summer for a series of shows performing their iconic 1991 album Spiderland.
“After the 2005 tour, I definitely never thought we’d play again,” guitarist David Pajo told Billboard.com. “The 2005 tour was going to be it. It was kind of like our way of closing the book on the band. But we learned we all still get along really well. We have an unspoken camaraderie, musically. The more we stayed in touch after that tour, the more we realized we still wanted to do it.”
And if that wasn’t enough to have Slint fans slumping down and getting people to blow cold air onto their face, the band also announced that they are working on their first new material for 13 years:
“We’re going through the same work tapes we used to get material for Spiderland,” Pajo reveals. “There are ideas we just never pursued. So far, it’s been really good. I don’t know what the final product will sound like, but the actual song crafting is going really well. We haven’t been able to focus on it as much as we like, because we’re still preparing for these shows.”
And though the upcoming shows are billed as performances of Spiderland, fans will get a taste of a new song, too:
“For me, objectively, I’d want to see the shows mostly to see what the new material is going to be like,” says Pajo. “It will be in the Slint tradition; lyrics and vocals are always the last things we work on, so it will probably be an instrumental song. Before Spiderland, we’d play the material live but without vocals. It was almost like we were an instrumental band. But we’ll see how it goes - I don’t want to make too many promises.”
