Glastonbury Granted Four Year License
Posted by: Andy on Wednesday, 28th March, 2007Glastonbury Festival has been granted a license by Mendip District Council for the next four years, meaning organisers won’t have to apply again until 2011. This license also allows for an increased capacity of 177,500 people (up from 150,000).
Recent changes to UK licensing laws mean that local councils can give events such as this much further in advance. Conditions may still be placed on the license, however. In this case, Glastonbury organisers must attend regular meetings with Pilton Parish Council (Pilton being the village where the festival actually takes place) – at least three before and one after each festival.
This is vastly different to Glastonbury license applications in the passed. Festival founder Michael Eavis said, “In the past we have had to jump through the hoops, year after year. It is great that we can plan future festivals safe in the knowledge that it will all be approved.”
