I seem to recall not especially liking the Wombats’ last effort, but I have to say, this song is rather good and very catchy indeed. I love the way it races along but keeps you at the same pace, and ‘wooo-oooohs’ sung like their trousers are on fire are still ringing around in my head.

It’s so spiky and lively and it’s got 60’s style lusciousness coursing through its veins. I do have to admit that it’s a little bit like those other jangly indie bands, but there’s something about Backfire At The Disco that makes it special. It kind of grabs you by the hand and swings you about like a dancefloor pro, but instead of jerking you around and making your head hurt and inducing nausea, it forces you to learn the moves and by the end of the 3 minutes 14 seconds you can imagine yourself starring in your own disco version of Baz Luhrmann’s Strictly Ballroom.

This song is a bit quirky, a bit poppy, a bit cheeky and a lot infectious. Let’s see how far it can take them.
