Dave House / Jenny Owen Youngs - Split 10”

Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 24th April, 2007

The fourth and final release in a series of split singles from the Gravity DIP label, this time bringing us two of the more interesting solo artists from either side of the Atlantic.

Dave House makes his second appearance in the series (he joined Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly on number two) and kicks off with the opening track from his second album (also released on 23rd April), Beep Beep (Hi Hi). This is followed by his own take on Death And Taxes by Kid Dynamite.

Whatever you might expect from a song called Fuck Was I that opens with the lines, “Love grows in me like a tumour / A parasite bent on devouring its host”, it probably wasn’t a slow, cello-led waltz, but that’s exactly what Jenny Owen Youngs delivers. A wry humour pervades the song and makes her an instantly likeable singer.

For her cover, Jenny takes on Nelly’s Hot In Herre, totally making it her own. It’s worth the asking price just to hear this song.
