Patrick Wolf Retires

Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 24th April, 2007

It’s the sudden pop announcement everyone’s talking about; it seems that Patrick Wolf has had enough of the music industry and plans to pack it all in later this year.

Interrupting a thread on his semi-official message board, in which fans were debating various aspects of his personality in great detail, Wolf began his post, “I should never have read this.. I really shouldn’t,” before setting straight some of the opinions raised by other board members and then announcing his retirement.

Much of the discussion on the message board centred around Wolf’s recent decision to sack his manager. Some fans felt he was on a power trip, other simply labelled him “a cunt”. He wrote that it was, in fact, “because my drummer was causing arguments within my road family, taking sedative drugs before an important show, so much so he could not play the music I wrote, because I had to slap him to see if he was even CONSCIOUS on stage.”

He continued, “I have made a decision, my final concert will be this November, a retrospective with an orchestra in London. I am not sure whether there will be anymore public communications after that. In fact I am pretty sure there will be none. I hope to share my last shows with you this year.”

He finishes, “If I can give any advice, just listen to the music, watch the videos, read the lyrics, see the artwork, these are my communications, not others.”

Though there was much speculation over the authenticity of the post, the board administrator later added to the discussion that Patrick had emailed him to confirm that his message was genuine.

Patrick Wolf’s third album, The Magic Position, was released on Loog Records in February.
