Alberta Cross - The Thief & The Heartbreaker

The debut album (because seven tracks counts as an album now, apparently) from Alberta Cross is a joyful escape into the influences of the band’s members, Petter Ericson Stakee, Terry Wolfers, Petter’s brother John Alexander Ericson and Seb Sternberg. Taking the country-tinged styles of 70’s rockers like Neil Young, The Band and Fleetwod Mac as their cue, they mix things up with a bit of gospel, Jeff Buckley and The Shins.

However, The Thief & The Hearbreaker is not simply a lesson in musical history; it’s a blow-by-blow account of how to write great songs. There is not one track on this CD you could accuse of being knocked off in a few minutes. These songs have been crafted over time and the results are highly enjoyable.
