CocoRosie Arrested And Deported
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 15th May, 2007Last week a slightly cryptic message claiming that members of CocoRosie had been arrested appear and then quickly disappeared from their official MySpace page. There was confusion over whether or not this was truth or some strange joke. The one thing that was certain was that the remainder of their US tour had been cancelled.
Further explanation from CocoRosie has not been forthcoming, but their support acts on the tour, Busdriver and Caural have both written on their MySpace blogs about the confusing situation they found themselves caught up in.
“Arrested! Deported! A few terms that you don’t want to pop up when you are attempting to tip-toe across the Canadian/American border,” Busdriver begins. “But for 2 out of the 3 members of Cocorosie’s live show squadron, this was the case.”
Continues Caural, “We had an uneventful layover in Denver and boarded our flight to Philadelphia; but it was then, right before the stewardesses rattled off safety instructions, that Sierra (from CocoRosie) phoned Regan. I was wearing headphones but heard enough of the conversation: ‘Are you serious? Back to France? Where are you?’
“Magically, Pitchfork had mention of it before we did, and we were already receiving phone calls from friends who heard the news. Frankly, I still don’t know the gruesome details other than the proper paperwork for two out of three band members (all French) were not provided to them, making their entry back into the states impossible.”
“The girls were faced with an ugly turn of events,” concludes Busdriver. “Their show, as it was, couldn’t happen without those two. Plus the morale had taken quite a beating in the interim. So… End it.”
As yet, there is no confirmation on whether the dates will be rescheduled. However, planned European dates will go ahead, beginning later this month.
