The Pigeon Detectives - Wait For Me
Posted by: Andy on Monday, 21st May, 2007After a lengthy string of single releases, Yorkshire’s next big export The Pigeon Detectives release their debut album, Wait For Me. This will delight the ever growing troop of fans that the band have been collecting pied piper-style since they formed in 2002.
The album is a cross between The Libertines and (I promise I’m not just saying this because they’re from Yorkshire) The Arctic Monkeys. With the brief exception of the intro to Can’t Control Myself, the album is a collection of upbeat indie tunes. Many of the riffs you will recognise from other well-know songs but that doesn’t mean The Pigeon Detectives don’t have a cheeky charm of their very own.
However, a cheeky charm is not all that’s needed to deliver a classic album. While this does have a few memorable songs, particularly new single I’m Not Sorry, a lot of them just wash over you and go almost unnoticed. When it all ends, you’re left with the feeling that this band could have done a lot better.
