Various Artists - Nouvelle Vague Presents New Wave
Posted by: Andy on Monday, 21st May, 2007French trio Nouvelle Vague are well known for their covers of songs by new wave artists. In fact, research shows you’re 74% more likely to have heard one of these covers than one of their original songs. So, who better to compile a two disc collection of covers by new wave bands?
Among the twenty four tracks that make up this collection, you’ll find an abundance of great songs. There are too many to list but some of the stand-outs include, Satisfaction (I Can’t Get Me No) by Devo, Antena’s unnerving version of The Boy From Ipanema, Elton Motello’s deviant reworking of Ça Plane Pour Moi, Walk On By by The Stranglers, I Heard It Through The Grapevine by The Slits and a live version of The Velvet Underground’s Sister Ray from Joy Division.
Nouvelle Vague Presents New Wave is one of those compilations that collects together songs that you probably should out but, for the most part, don’t. Therefore, it’s less a recommended, more a required purchase.
