Souvaris - A Hat
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 26th June, 2007There are a lot of genres that are over subscribed. Instrumental post-rock is one of them, despite not actually having that many bands under its umbrella. Souvaris are yet another one and, well, they’re actually quite brilliant.
Calling them “yet another one” is unfair. It gives the impression that they’ve just appear when, in fact, they have been together for six years and A Hat is their second album. The culmination of three years work, the album draws on a number of other bands who would be called their contemporaries. Of course, mentioning Mogwai and Explosions In The Sky is almost a cliché but there are small aspects of them. However, smaller players like Low and the almost unheard of My Education offer greater influence.
Made up of six lengthy tracks, the band save the best ‘til last with Nobody Is Fine And Everybody Needs A Drink and The Young Ted Danson; the former a stunning example of the quiet/loud dynamic and the latter a beautiful cacophony of crashing guitar lines.
With A Hat Souvaris prove that, where quality music’s concerned, there’s always room for one more.
