Amp - All Of Yesterday Today
Posted by: Andy on Monday, 2nd July, 2007This may only be their second release, but if the Rroopp label carry on like this we’re going to end up completely spoiled. Following on from last years similarly styled yellow6 collection, this new compilation spans Amp’s career from 1992 to the present day with three discs of singles, non-album tracks and unreleased material. That’s over three and a half hours of material, all remastered and packaged up beautifully.
A combination of field recordings and raw, sprawling sound, Amp’s music is something beautiful. Not introverted enough to be described as shoegazer nor passive enough to be ambient, or pretentious enough to be space-rock, it draws on all these genres and more and becomes something else altogether.
There’s also a surprising amount of variety on offer, from spacey, improvised tracks that move and swell, to dark dub and soft, folky acoustic pieces. The occasional appearance of French vocalist Karine Charff adds yet another layer to this diverse mix.
All Of Yesterday Tomorrow is a fantastic collection and one you almost can’t justify not owning.
