Tenebrous Liar - Tenebrous Liar
Posted by: Andy on Monday, 2nd July, 2007Tenebrous is not for everyone. In fact, there are some who would argue that Tenebrous is not for anyone. This is the third Tenebrous album and heralds the third change of name - following on from The Havering, a collaboration with poet Gerry Mitchell, under the name Tenebrous Mitchell. As usual, the whole thing balances precariously on the shakiest points of various genres and constantly threatens to collapse in on itself. But this unpredictable nature is what makes it all the more intriguing.
The lo-fi mix of country and blues is often ripped apart by attacks from swirling guitars, buried beneath great swathes of rumbling distortion. This is music likely, perhaps even designed to disorientate and confuse. But these raids on the senses come between moments of lazy beauty, like Yellow Moon, Approaching Happy, the sleepy closing track Blow My Mind or Torch Your Thoughts, one of two songs featuring Ed Harcourt.
