Numerous single releases had taken this band off the boil for me in recent months, so it was with low expectations I pressed play on their debut album for the first time. But as Beautiful To Watch quietly fades in, a special feeling enters the room. Suddenly jarring beats and equally jarring lyrics swallow the ambience. GoodBooks have announced their arrival with what you will soon know is unfailing class and style.

Funky, summery, dancefloor indie is the order of the day and on Control it keeps on coming. These tunes are infectiously upbeat, in spite of their dark lyrics. It’s the kind of music that makes you feel alert and ready. Ready for what, who knows? Why not bounce around the room while you try to work it out?
