Groove Armada - Song 4 Mutya
Posted by: Daisy on Monday, 6th August, 2007Unless you’ve been locked in a box, hiding from the rain, you will be aware that this song has been floating around the airwaves for a couple of months now. When I first heard it all that time ago I have to admit that I found it painfully irritating.
However, I must now say that it’s beaten me down. There’s a delicious electro pop beat, and with the only one from the Sugababes who could actually sing on vocals Groove Armada have done well. The thuds of the persistent bass line mixed with Mutya’s husky voice makes for something of a grumbler of a track.
Song 4 Mutya seems to be a chance for her to howl about how she can cope seeing her bloke with his new bit of skirt, but to be truthful I think the lyrics just work as another layer of the song musically, rather than being of any significance. I’ve heard it enough to have got some words whizzing about my head, but Mutya’s singing acts more as another back beat… but it’s good!
This song is an 80’s tinged treat which, although does manage to bug me a little, is rather infectious and addictive. It’s very easy to listen to it about 4 times on repeat without getting bored, and any song which can do that gets a gold star from me.
Having said that, I think it’s the sort of thing you’re either going to love or it will totally miss your radar. I think it finds you, rather than you find it. But don’t ignore it.
