The Pigeon Detectives - Take Her Back

Posted by: Daisy on Monday, 6th August, 2007

Damn those Pigeon Detectives! They’re still called The Pigeon Detectives yet they are enjoying success. Not that I deny them this success, you must understand… but back in March 2006 when I first happened upon I’m Not Sorry I didn’t think such a name would get them anywhere!

Instead, they have gone from strength to strength and have tightened up their sound and Take Her Back, while adhering to their usual jangly guitary bouncy 70’s-esque pop songs, is just as infectious as you’d expect. I think it is down to their stabby, jumpy rhythms which just draw you in and make you tap your wee toes along. While their songs really do have a habit of sounding very similar, I think it’s worked for them and they are churning out tracks that just grab you. There’s a certain hook to each which manages to make them that little bit exciting. Spiky, shouty Northern vocals cap it off, and with plenty of incredibly average music around, these boys keep one step ahead… but can they survive in the new rave, neon climate we currently inhabit? Perhaps.

Check their website for details of a full UK tour throughout October/November.
