Ex-Bandmate Sues Marilyn Manson
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 7th August, 2007Marilyn Manson is being sued by his former keyboard player Stephen Bier (AKA Madonna Wayne Gacy) for $20 million in unpaid, shared profits.
One of the original members of Marilyn Manson & The Spooky Kids in 1990, Bier played with the band for nearly two decades, the longest serving member, other than Manson himself. He left the band shortly before the recording of their Eat Me, Drink Me album. In a statement issued shortly before the album’s release in June this year, it was claimed that he had left to concentrate on his photography.
However, in legal papers, filed on 2nd August, Bier claims that Manson told him that the band was not making much money, cutting off his salary, credit card access and refusing to pay his medical bills for work-related problems, before embarking on a two year spending spree between 2004 and 2006.
The papers go on to list items purchased with money belonging to the band during this time, including a $2 million house, coat hangers used by Adolf Hitler and his wife Eva Braun’s handbag, African masks made of human skin, the full skeleton of a four-year-old Chinese girl, the full skeleton of a 17th Century male in a wheelchair, a $450,000 engagement ring for burlesque performer Dita Von Teese, drugs, drug treatment and used money to fund the production of his upcoming film, Phantasmagoria: The Visions of Lewis Carroll.
The papers add the when Bier challenged Manson over his “partnership proceeds”, the singer “devised a campaign to drive [him] out of the band and rob him of his entitlement.”
The papers finally conclude, “Because of Manson and others’ fraudulent conduct, Bier has spent almost two decades working for one of the world’s most popular rock bands that has made millions of dollars in profit and now has almost nothing to show for it.”
Speaking to MTV, Manson said the accusations were “really ridiculous. It just seems like another ex-band member suing me and trying to assassinate my personality as a means to financial gain.”
“The fact that he’s claiming that I’ve treated him unfairly, financially, is really ridiculous,” continued Manson. “And I would never spend my money on a Chinese girl skeleton. That would be crossing the line. It’s a Chinese boy, for the record.”
