Pete Doherty Banned From London
Posted by: Andy on Tuesday, 7th August, 2007In a move that will no doubt delight many, Pete Doherty has been banned from London while he awaits sentencing for drug offences.
The Babyshambles and former Libertines frontman was arrested for possession of Class A drugs on Kensington High Street in May and pleaded guilty at a hearing in July. He was due to be sentenced at the West London Magistrates Court today. However, Judge Davinda Latchlar decided to delay sentencing for a further four weeks while Doherty continues his attempts to quit drugs.
When the singer returns to court next month, it will be assessed whether he has managed to make sufficient effort to get clean. The judge told him, “if you do not show motivation in the next four weeks you will be in prison.”
The judge also added that Doherty should stay with family outside London while he awaits his next court appearance.
Speaking to the NME shortly after leaving the court, Doherty said, “I can’t stay with my mum, not while she’s with my dad. I’m not quite sure where I’m staying. Babyshambles are going to have to decamp to the sticks for a while.”
Despite these restrictions, Judge Latchlar did grant permission to play the Festival Heineken Paredes de Coura in Portugal on 12th August and V Festival on 18th and 19th August.
