Available at a bargain price, this compilation is a great purchase for anyone interested in different styles of music from around the world (and that should be all of you). The traditional songs in particular provide an atmosphere that conjures up so many different images and will transport you to another place. It’s when modern musical elements are incorporated that things become in danger of crossing the cheese threshold - In the case of By My Own Hand, Joseph Fire Crow stumbles right through it. But this occasional blip should not put you off and it’s still very interesting to see how traditional music is still developing.
